Adaptive Four-Stage Charging
The RENOGY REGO 12V 35A AC-DC Battery Charger features an adaptive four-stage charging algorithm designed to provide rapid, efficient, and safe battery charging. The charging stages include Bulk Charge, Boost Charge, Float Charge, and Equalization, each optimized to enhance performance and extend battery lifespan.
Bulk Charge
During the high-current fast charging phase, if the battery voltage has not yet reached the preset threshold (either Equalization or Boost voltage), the charger operates in Bulk Charge mode. In this stage, the charger continuously delivers a constant maximum current to rapidly increase the battery voltage. Once the battery voltage reaches the preset level, the charger automatically transitions to the constant voltage stage.
Constant Voltage Charging (Boost or Equalization)
When the battery voltage reaches the preset value, the charger enters the constant voltage charging phase. During this stage, the charging current gradually decreases and high constant current charging is no longer applied. This phase includes two possible states—Boost or Equalization—which operate independently and are not repeated within the same charging cycle.
Boost Charge
The Boost charging stage maintains the battery at a constant voltage for a default duration of two hours. Users can adjust both the Boost duration and voltage set point based on specific battery requirements, ensuring optimal charging performance and battery health.
Float Charge
After completing the constant voltage stage, the charger reduces the battery voltage to a Float charge level. Once the battery is fully charged, chemical reactions within the battery cease, and excess charging current would otherwise convert into heat or gas. The Float stage applies a lower voltage to maintain full battery capacity while offsetting self-discharge. If the connected load exceeds the charging current during this stage, the charger exits Float mode and re-enters Bulk Charge.
Equalization
Equalization charging is automatically performed once every 30 days. This controlled overcharging process benefits certain battery types by stirring the electrolyte, balancing battery cell voltages, and completing chemical reactions. During Equalization, the charger raises the battery voltage above the standard charging level, causing electrolyte gassing that helps restore battery performance and longevity.
